Going to bite the bullet soon and go back to Bootcamp. Might take me a while to get around to it but I will try to run it on my old 2007 MBP. Thats the one with the crappy nVidia 8600 graphics card. Not expecting much but a it will probably be ok on lowest vid settings. Note: Apple replaced the logic board on that machine 4 years after purchase because of the nVidia's crap cards.

Boys, I will say if we can revive the Redline group to racing something like the old days in Redline, I guarantee that I will just pop for mid level PC gaming machine. If even as few as 10 or 12 of us racing on a regular basis it will be sooo much fun.
Give me a couple of weeks to get things going and I will join in. I hope everyone catches the bug in the meantime.

Totally agree. FFB in rFactor is just so much fun. Really feel the road. As for the audio, that is also another sense that's add to the virtual pleasure. Love to hear the dirt and gravel on the side of the car making contact.

I'm running bootcamp on an older machine than yours. first generation macbook pro dual 1.86
Runs fantastic. But, I do have 100 g set for my window partition. Once you start adding tracks and mods, it does add up.

Well, ignorance is bliss for some of us! I'll try it this weekend perhaps - work is too tiring just now for this kind of malarkey on week nights. Looks like CrossOver is claiming gold compatibility, which is encouraging.

I'm another one that tried the server. I'll try to be there later but I'm really tired today.
I hate car setups but I've learned something. Playing with a gamepad is quite easy, way better than keyboard.
I'm not married but I'm not allowed to have a wheel... it's a silly world indeed

If anyone is interested I have a bunch of text files that cover all kinds of stuff related to setting up rFactor, and tuning cars etc. There may be some windows tweaks too. Many of these I got through Dandy, some I found on my own. They could ease the steep learning curve needed to get things "up to speed".

Just PM me and I can email you a copy. Less than 2mb.

I've tried with a keyboard, is more difficult than redline but you can do that. ATM I'm using a gamepad Smile

If the physics are much better than in Redline I can understand why it is (more) difficult using a keyboard. I would not want to drive my real car with a keyboard ...

just to rectify if I scared the heck out of anyone. I had changed my bootcamp/windows partition size to 35 gigs from the 100 I had originally given it. which is why it's almost full. Damn, now I'm doing to be in a de fragment conundrum !

Just give Boot Camp enough room.. I almost gagged when I saw the size of that enduracers mod, over 1 gig.. aaaggckkhhhh

So what size do you guys recommend for the partition? I obviously want enough room to be good for a while, but I don't want to hog too much of the HD.

Dandy is the guru with all the experience he has had in the past two years.

On my end, I just looked and have 10+ gigs of space used in the Rfactor folder.

I agree, if you aren't doing anything else, 50 gig should be fine. EDIT - at least, for XP...

As for the space, I have a 65GB partition with win 7. Actually I have 28GB free but I use it for some test too.

Ugh. Well I had a SSD with 60GB each for snow and 7...but just managed to brick it. Bought refurbed, pitiful warranty period gone...no method I can find to reset the controller. Lesson learned...the warranty is part and parcel with these things, they're locking up with alarming regularity.

Back on topic, 30GB is the minimum size for XP, but might about the maximum for the FAT32 format, which allows read and write from OS X. More space is better (I like 60GB) but requires NTFS format, which is more stable anyway, but doesn't support writing from OS X. There are ways around this, from packages like NTFS-3g to terminal hacks to drag-and-drop through VMWARE or Parallels.
