Re: rFactor - how-to
You will need to 'buy' the car under vehicles. To buy all cars in a mod, enter a test session and type ISI_BABYFACTORY in the chat box.Kenners wrote:With the troubles I was having with MAS errors & such, I deleted everything I could that was rF related, and downloaded & reinstalled the mods. Everything's working now; but when I join the server, I'm not a participant.. Can't race. Is this because I need to have some experience first or something?
Kenners
If that doesn't do it, check under Connect > Settings. Ensure 'Spectate' is off - which allows you to join and watch, but doesn't allow you to race.
Meganes and Road Atlanta loaded...have a go!
I darn broke it
I was alsways having this error when I started XP that MOM.exe could not run so I deleted it tonight. Now Rfactor wont load telling me I dont have Directx 9.0.c
I have been to the microsoft site and dowloaded direct x drivers but am getting the same error. )I should have left well enough alone!)

MOM is part of the ATI drivers - maybe grab updated divers from the AMD site here:See Flat wrote:I was alsways having this error when I started XP that MOM.exe could not run so I deleted it tonight. Now Rfactor wont load telling me I dont have Directx 9.0.c

Apple Boot Camp XP Software Graphics Drivers
Otherwise, reinstalling rFactor will reinstall your DirectX.

it's fixed and running.

Server join tested - A-OK on my end
I'm getting an error on the atlanta track. And get a disconnect. I've installed the track you linked us too.
EDIT: re-installed atlanta track and all running, got on server, did some laps, Dandy dropped in for a sec. So we know it works, all we need now is a time when we all show up and have a virtual beer and talk about old times.
Cheers!

Re: rFactor - how-to
Seems OK now - was just on with SF. Track has a 'zebra tent' sky - so something's still a bit off. Will be looking into it later.See Flat wrote:I'm getting an error on the atlanta track. And get a disconnect. I've installed the track you linked us too.

I don't need to race so badly that I will install Windows to do it (not Mac zealotry just, what a drag!) but I do have CrosOver Pro. I might investigate if enough of you get started with rFactor.

You can get the task manager in an RDP session by typing "taskmgr" at the prompt. Shutdown is "shutdown /s" and reboot is "shutdown /r".Kenners wrote:Anybody know how to force a reboot of XP using the "Run.." command

Re: rFactor - how-to
If you do, I recommend rFactor Lite. 100MB, each new bottle resets the 60-min trial. Slightly annoying, but gives you an idea.djpimley wrote:I don't need to race so badly that I will install Windows to do it (not Mac zealotry just, what a drag!) but I do have CrosOver Pro. Re: rFactor - how-to
The 'Zebra sky' fix for this track is to turn the game's Texture filter settings (Customize>Settings>Display) to Full.

my settings are on full, still al zebra
EDIT: Saw there was one more notch available (ULTRA) and that fixed the sky.
Re: rFactor - how-to
That's an 'overall' setting which may or may not be appropriate for a given machine...click the boxes w/ the arrows to enter the 'fine-tuning' menus.See Flat wrote:EDIT: Saw there was one more notch available (ULTRA) and that fixed the sky.
Re: rFactor - how-to
Glad to see so many of you taking part in this discussion, man it would be really great to see all the old faces together on a good sim like rFactor. I really miss all the great times we had in Redline, I look back on the game and all the tourneys we did fondly.
Myself, I really like rFactor, but it is such a pain in the ass to do Bootcamp, install Windows and go through the set up and tweaking process to get the game to run at its best. I just don't have time to do that again right now, especially on my MBP that only has a 120G SSD.
So I was wondering like DJ, if Crossover games or one of their other variants would work with rFactor lite. I kind of remember that Dandy got it work, but that there was some feature that was lacking. If Crossover can be made to allow multiplayer it would be an easier way get everyone up and running while not having to go with Windows. Dandy, can you advise on the feasibility of going that route?

Re: rFactor - how-to
lol....I'm personally happier with the Boot Camp/VMWARE (or Parallels) combo running on reasonably powerful hardware, but then I'm ambiOStrous. Following posts on the CrossOver page, it appears to work better than ever...even our man Don has been at it, but I haven't played with it lately.Kenners wrote:http://rmactor.blogspot.com/2009/04/cx-80-beta-1-tested-we-are-go.html

The only problematic thing is installing mods - many are done with a drag n' drop to merge folder contents in Windows, but this action replaces contents on the Mac. Merging requires using the terminal and ditto command, or an alternate app. Again, slightly annoying.
I'd recommend separate "bottles" with rFactor lite for each important mod in crossover for less chance of screwing up an existing install.
Then there's FFB - last I checked, drivers didn't work, so your wheel feels like it's on "default" - much like in Redline, with no real effects. A properly adjusted FFB offers so much more enjoyment that it would be hard to go back. FFB does work via VMWARE, however, and likely Parallels as well, though performance may suffer on a notebook, and I certainly wouldn't want to without cranking smcFanControl to 11.
Re: rFactor - how-to
Took a look at the server today; I recognize at least 4 people who've been in & out. Just be nice if we could bump into one another once in a while (figuratively speaking).
i'm going to try to be on later today, maybe around 00:00 UTC (prob too late for euros, eh?)

Re: rFactor - how-to
Me being one of them
Tried parallels - performance is poor.
tried crossovergames - there is a community installer - dont work.
so sticking on bootcamp. hate to boot my mac in winblows. makes me feel like a cheap hooker.
hate the learning curve and me being so slow, crashing unpredictably.
anyway - ill be there probably later on, until i get so angry on me being really slow and crashing that i force-quit the winblows and feel home again on my mac.
hard to retrain an old horse...
alf
PS: .exe, config, ini, +fullproc... i never missed that really.

There is a good chance I will still be slower than you!
Re: rFactor - how-to
Tried Crossover again, Dandy's right, still no FFB. Once you have tried FFB in rFactor you can't do without it. Similar to installing an SSD; no going back to a spiny drive after that.
Going to bite the bullet soon and go back to Bootcamp. Might take me a while to get around to it but I will try to run it on my old 2007 MBP. Thats the one with the crappy nVidia 8600 graphics card. Not expecting much but a it will probably be ok on lowest vid settings. Note: Apple replaced the logic board on that machine 4 years after purchase because of the nVidia's crap cards.
Boys, I will say if we can revive the Redline group to racing something like the old days in Redline, I guarantee that I will just pop for mid level PC gaming machine. If even as few as 10 or 12 of us racing on a regular basis it will be sooo much fun.
Give me a couple of weeks to get things going and I will join in. I hope everyone catches the bug in the meantime.
