Car models converted from TOCA 3 / NfS 4
For those of you with access to the LoL FTP server, I've created the folder "ConvertedModels" in my home folder.
This folder contains a number of models that have been converted to Redline format, and they just lack a dedicated developer in order to become a plugin.
All models so far are from plugins that I found on nfsunlimited.net, and have been converted from TOCA 3 to Need for Speed: High Stakes by a person who calls himself Krystoff. With his permission, the models have now been converted to Redline format. They are detailed and yet only 3000 triangles, and have nice textures. The downside is that there is no shadow model, and the textures are a bit too intricate for anyone to modify with ease.
So far, I've made the following models available:
- AC Cobra
- Audi Quattro. Booked by Valentin K.
- Caterham 7 <- lacks headlights
- Lancia Stratos
- Morgan Aero 8 (GT3)
- Renault Alpine A110
- Vauxhall VXR (GT3/GT4)
- Williams BMW FW27 (2005 F1)
- Williams Honda FW11B (1987 F1)
- Williams Renault FW18 (1996 F1)
I'm also planning to share the following models in the near future:
- Mercedes W25 (1930s Grand Prix)
- Mercedes W196 (1950s Grand prix)
- Lotus 49 (1969)
...and I have some other ideas as well.
As some of you might have guessed, I'm slowly trying to find free (as in "freedom of speech") replacements for as many of thomm's cars as possible.
I've also decided to release the Monster Truck soon, as that model was from this collection. If anyone wants to work on any of the cars above, post in this thread so that we don't risk having two people working on the same car.

In what way are they intricate? If it's one flat file per skin, I'm happy to make a multi-layered, grouped, .psd file for each car.
Re: Car models converted from TOCA 3 / NfS 4
I'd like to see all of those in the game but spending hours fiddling with car files doesn't float my boat these days, besides I think there are people much better and more knowledgeable at it than me. However I'd be happy to assist, either doing further work to adapt the models and generate shadow models or to contribute skins.
If there's one car that I would be interested to try, it's the F1. I'd like to see something requiring a little more skill to drive than thomm's F1 and with a plethora of skins.

The body texture is split into four sub-textures where the UV patches are spread across these textures seemingly at random, you'll spend a lot of time sorting out what goes where. Some areas are not only rotated, but also mirrored (!) for no obvious reason. That makes it difficult to draw a consistent pinstripe with text across the body, for instance.NoNameBrand wrote:In what way are [the textures] intricate?
You're of course welcome to make multi-layered .psd files if you like and if you have the time, but don't start until someone claims a model to use as a car project.
There's more than 10 skins for the FW27 model that I have. And there's a Williams Renault FW11B (1987) model, and a Williams Renault FW18B (1996). I even have an archive full of "cardboard models" of almost every 70s+ Grand Prix car if someone wants to start modeling DANDY-styledjpimley wrote:I'd like to see something requiring a little more skill to drive than thomm's F1 and with a plethora of skins.

Why not re-map them, then?
Re: Car models converted from TOCA 3 / NfS 4
Of course, if it's OK to sacrifice the skins that have already been made. All the source files are there. Personally, I can't stand the process, but thankfully every person is different.NoNameBrand wrote:Why not re-map them, then?

If we want other skins than the provided ones, it makes sense to me to spend 20-40 minutes re-mapping the UV maps to make the skinning job that much easier later on.
Re: Car models converted from TOCA 3 / NfS 4
I've added some more car models, mostly thomm-replacements. See the first post.

I'd take over that Quattro, but I have a few other projects to finish before I could get to that one

No problem, just grab the Quattro whenever you are ready.

HRC for rFactor
While searching for skins for my RS200, I came across the HRC modification for rFactor. This has been greenlighted for conversion to other games, and in addition to the RS200 and Quattro S1, includes the following cars:
Alfa Romeo GTA
BMW 2002 Alpina
Ford Escort RS 1600
Lancia 037, Delta S4, Fulvia
Metro 6R4
NSU Prinz TTS
Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, 405 Turbo 16
Renault Alpine A110, R5 Turbo 2/Maxi, R8 Gordini, R12 Gordini, Simca Rally 2
Suzuki Escudo
Toyota Tacoma
Drawback: In several cases, severe polygon reduction or re-modeling is required to fit within Redline performance standards.
Maybe I need to make the name of this topic more general, should I come across more gems like this.
