"Now Hosting" rFactor races...
I've been experimenting with running rFactor Dedicated on my home computer. My connection is 30Mb/5Mb, so it's plenty fast enough for a few racers anyways.. At any rate, on Saturdays and Sundays at about 20:00 UTC, I'll plan on hosting on my home Mac some of the built-in cars and tracks. When the server is running, look for "Li'l RLer Server too". Later in the month, I'll also be running on Tuesdays at about the same time (early afternoon in the US, early evening in Europe).
I think this thread could also be used like the "now hosting" thread, for folks hoping to see some real people on the Redliner's servers..
I'm not entirely certain, but I'm pretty sure that once one person joins the server, others can only join during the initial practice session. Maybe one can also join during the qualifying sessions.
I'm also going to set up a teamspeak server on my machine, so if someone wants to join & the server isn't accepting, you can contact me on audio & I can let you know where we are. I've been watching the tutorials for teamspeak, and seems pretty straightforward to get it set up. I don't know what kind of bandwidth TS takes, but if there's a problem, I'll have to rethink it.
The PC at my office will continue to run as well ("Li'l RLer Server"), currently with the Road Atlanta and Mid Ohio tracks, and as Dandy or I update that with different car/track combos, we'll post links to mods/cars/tracks on the "how to" thread.
Cheers,
Andrew aka Kenners
Edit - I think I've got TeamSpeak set up. The URL should be
amckenzie81506.dyndns.org
and the password is the same as Leo's old TS server: blad3runn3r
The TS client download page is here:

Re: "Now Hosting" rFactor races...
Sound very promising.
as for teamspeak, the bandwith of course depends on the number of users, but its really moderate for, say 20 .
U are most probably installing teamspeak server 3 (really easy to set up), so we ll have to get the right client, which is simple but remarkable.
Hope to catch some real players in rfactor some time again...

There's apparently TS clients for your iPhone or droid too.. If one's internet connection is not quite enough to cover the online race plus TS (or if you have no mic on your Mac).alphonse wrote:Sound very promising.

Re: "Now Hosting" rFactor races...
Sounds great Kenners, Tuesdays especially should work well.
I've run a few R2P races with the GT3 mod, was pretty disappointing...really tricky to keep the tires from overheating.
The Aussie "V8 Unleashed" mod, on the other hand - freakin' great for a 2-car 'spec' mod.
It appears you can change this in multiplayer.ini - look for Closed MP Qualify Sessions="0" or "1" ...I'd guess 0 is the value you're looking for.
Lots of space left on the PRW team - just note that real names are required by R2P.

I'll have to check out the V8's you're referring to. And I think I'll have to check out The PRW team..

phew
it's fun to see all of you active.
flashback: about a month ago, my wife had an accident in the bathroom. (no worries, no injuries) and she damaged the tiles. We decided to renovate the bathroom. 8k $ later. It's done.
I also got a new MBP quad core 2.2 / 4 g ram / 750 hd and matte high rez display. (Love it)
BUT, drivers for windows XP were no longer supported. I read tons of discussions on how to bypass all the BOOT camp does not want to instal XP blah blah... never got around it. I got fed up and bought Windows 7 (250$)
so all this combined took me out of the loop.
I get back to lil red server and gasp... V8s ( that I cant really drive) AND... you are forcing cockpit view on me!!!! I'm choking here! hehehe
will try to set up team speak.
Cheers, Hope to see you guys soon with some tips and hopefull set ups to ease the lost of control.

After successfully fixing my momo throttle a month ago (had to fix how the throttle potentiometer is installed)... yesterday, the brake started screwing up. so I took the whole thing apart again, fixed the brake pot but after putting it back together I noticed throttle was only getting about 95%. Took it apart AGAIN.... and just cant get it fixed. It's actually really screwed up now as I'm only getting about 60% throttle. Goes without saying... so much for racing until I find a way to fix it, or replace it.

I'd guess the pot's been turned off its normal mark, you may need to realign it. Check for broken pedal mounts as well, which may be tough to fix permanently.See Flat wrote:After successfully fixing my momo throttle a month ago (had to fix how the throttle potentiometer is installed)... yesterday, the brake started screwing up. so I took the whole thing apart again, fixed the brake pot but after putting it back together I noticed throttle was only getting about 95%. All fixed.
Actually went through a bunch of steps, which also included switching pots on pedals, which confirmed the position on pedals is more of an issue as the same symptoms of brakes on and throttle not going to full still remained.
I re installed everything and though things seemed dire at this point as I only now had 60 percent throttle. I was pointed to a software solution by a fellow racer in the BROS meganne server. I've actually met a few really nice and helpful racers in there that play very fair and are good simmers. They just put up with the yahoos at times because I think they subsidize that server with donations. But they are actually much more strict than a remember from two years ago.
So, software solution: DXTeak2
Very nice calibration tool that permitted me to set a zero point to brakes so they don't engage early ( as in when supposed to be and be off) and set the maximum throttle to where I want. You can also change the curve of axis etc. Definitely worth looking into if you want to tweak how your analogue input device responds to your style of driving.

Raced with Kenners yesterday to watch him be victorious over those rogue AI's !!

Might not be able to be around at that time, but will try. Also, the race2play practice server is up as well, you might be able to catch some actual competition in there. Passwords should be on your dashboard on day of race, but until then it's the default generic password which is also listed on your dashboard.

Hi Alf,
Great thing about the Race2Play site and community, is there is a race going on almost everyday. you just have to sign up for the ones you think you might enjoy riding. All the races I've been in, there is an American version which runs in the AMs for you, but there are also European events scheduled for 8 or 9 p.m. your time. I actually usually prefer these as they are in the afternoon weekdays when I am most often at home.
Cheers
