Re: I've been cheating on you
This time it's for real. Crossover 8.0 is released, the GUIDE can be used to set it up.
Known issues are no DirectX 9 shaders, generic USB input (momo driver won't install, so no split gas/throttle, feedback is pretty dead feeling). For this reason alone I still run it under Boot Camp with the Logitech driver and an custom feeback plugin.
Still haven't gotten wine to work, though I haven't tried very hard. The best I could get was an application error on startup. It would require an even more convoluted setup than CO, so I'll likely leave it at that.
I'm currently running with Virtual Online Racers (VOR). 46 drivers, 75 minutes, 2 and 4-class LeMans series. Really, honey, she means nothing to me.

Live broadcast this evening of GT1/GT2 racing with a grid of 44 @ Valencia: http://www.livestream.com/tyrrellracing
Qualifying starts shortly after 21:00 EST, race lasts 75 minutes.
Will be added to on-demand library afterwards. May provide useful ideas for Legacy or league development, or simple entertainment.

Are you still racing over there? how;s it going? fun? challenging? Stupid clients lagging in their payments, so i might install it on a desktop dell i have, just to get in there.

Re: I've been cheating on you
He is, and doing well too. He had a second in class just last week. And other podiums before that.
Some of our TCC racing rules come directly from these rF leagues.
Amped, getting windows up and running, getting all the controls and settings to run correctly is a pain compared to Redline, especially on a slower machine. And if you have never run Windows it's worse. Not to mention that you have to restart your OS whenever you get the notion to race. But once there, it's really fun.
So D, any progress to report with the porting?

Re: I've been cheating on you
^ What Toad said. Tonight's race is the GTS series (GT1, GT2) so it's much tougher to place well than in the LMC series (LMP1, LMP2, GT1, GT2)...my best showing in GTS so far is 8th.
For more a little more casual yet competitive racing, race2play.com has some fun series. I'm currently running BMW e21 racers wearing Gilles Villeneuve colours. I drove in several series during the last season there, but racing nearly every night became a bit much.
I haven't been looking into the porting lately, but it works reasonably well by following This Guide for Crossover. Codeweavers has some brilliant proprietary stuff going on in their software that I wasn't able to easily replicate on a regular wine install. I might take another stab in the future.

Re: I've been cheating on you
ok, got it running on the dell. Just needed to update to sp3 and updated graphics drivers etc etc. I like it, i think. Im only in the trial mode, so havent jumped online to see whats what. are there casual races or is everything a tourney? How about cars? I don't see any "namebrand" cars really.....or am i missing something?
I like what i see so far, and def. had some fun tooling around. I will probably end up buying it, just because i miss my racing days....
feel free to add me "amped"

Re: I've been cheating on you
Yea, included cars are 'generic' to avoid licencing issues, with the exception of the Panoz. Most seem to start with the Megane races, those servers run built-in tracks, AWD mayhem with insults all round.amped™ wrote:ok, got it running
Most downloads are available on http://www.rfactorcentral.com/
The race2play.com races have all skill levels and actual rules, so you might pick a series and get comfortable on one of those (hint: e21!!)
I'd like to set up a dedicated server for RL'ers, but it may be a while before that happens, depends what kind of POS ancient PC I can cobble together for pocket change.
rFactor server for Redline..
I have a Dell machine at the office that I could set up to host rFactor races for RLers..
It's a reasonably capable machine, with a 2+GHz Pentium 4 & plenty of RAM. The nice thing about the office is it has 10mb down/3mb up internet.
Can a server be started & run on a machine & just left alone?

Re: I've been cheating on you
Yep - with an rF install, run the Dedicated server app set server options (which mods, rules, bandwidth, etc)...rF doesn't even need to be registered on the machine, just installed with the mods you want to run. The CPU doesn't even have to be very capable, as rF doesn't have to be running. I was on a host who was running on a Celeron 800, probably ca. 1998, no issues.Kenners wrote:

Re: I've been cheating on you
I dug the Dell out of mothballs. I need a longer ethernet cable and a USB mouse, and maybe a video cable that I can run from under the desk to easily swap the monitor from the G5 tower to it. Then I can fire it up and download & install rF.
I'll need some advice on mods to install (specific links, maybe?), and some input on how else to configure it. Do I want to have it password-protected, or just let folks play on it? I assume that it will host one race at a time? (that is, if the rF version of turbo crack bunnies are playing a game and a couple of us want to race, we'd be out of luck until they're finished..?)
Until tomorrow..

Dunno what you monitor can handle - mine's got both digital and analog inputs, had a nice dual setup going with single button needed to switch between them, maybe yours will do the same?
For mods, small and simple might be easiest to start with. I liked the Spirit of '76 as a learning platform, which consists of the Group 4 Lotus Europa and Group 5 Fiat X1/9 Dallara.
Available here: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Spirit%20of%2076
The built-in tracks are very good, but it wouldn't hurt to add:
The Ring: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Nordschleife%20The%20Ring%202007
and for direct comparison --
Laguna: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Laguna%20Seca
and Mid-Ohio: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Mid%2DOhio%20Sports%20Car%20Course
The server app allows the operator to choose which tracks to use in rotation. All, one, up to you! Voting should be allowed for unattended user session control, and all flags should be used, but no full-course yellows, they just suck. Damage and fuel/tire usage should stay at 100%/1X, otherwise the realism is lost.

Hah, it's an old CRT. No biggie, though, swapping the cable. The thing won't be doing anything except sitting there running.

Sounds good, thanks. I probably need to figure out which ports to open through my firewall. Any idea? Course, I'll look at rFactor if not.

Looks like it's TCP 34447 and UDP 34297, 34397
If all else fails, this might help, but appears to be old info:

If you're running through a router I believe they also recommend disabling DHCP and using a local static IP addresses instead.
I just got the info below the other day also.
"The way the game is now, "announce game" is disabled until the user hits the "test firewall" button. Not sure if that was the case with the demo. Just another thing to keep in mind for the future though"
One more thing you can check. I had problems with players seeing my game in the game list, or even adding the IP address, until I set my server up with a static local IP address of 192.168.1.2.
I originally had DHCP enabled, with the server set to obtain an IP address automatically and my personal gaming system set up with a local static IP of 192.168.1.2. That way the server would always use an local IP of 192.168.1.100. Which for some reason is the only I could get the server to work with Nascar Heat.
But like I said, that setup didn't seem to work with rFactor. Players couldn't see my game in the game list, or even connect by adding my IP address.
So I tried disabling DHCP and setting up the server with a local IP of 192.168.1.3 and my gaming system with 192.168.1.2, but that didn't work either.
Then I tried switching the local IP addresses. The server with 192.168.1.2 and my gaming system with 192.168.1.3. Bingo! That worked.
Doh, you gots issues in that boxamped™ wrote:trying to install the e21.....installs fine, but i cant find it, lol

Re: I've been cheating on you
ok, got the cars to load, but still no skins.....just black. wtf is this so complicated for.....the cars have installers too, which means everything should go where it's supposed to Oo.
That rfactorcentral site is a slug.....takes so long for things to load and most cars are hosted on terrible sites that just take forever to download. And you were right, these plugins are HUGE!
I bought rfactor today, might go for the refund though.....we'll see tomorrow how i feel about it.....might stick with redline on the soon to come new macbook and decide about rfactor later on.

Right on all counts, it's no legacy... dunno what those issues are, never seen it. Are you certain you didn't download a patch and not the full mod?amped™ wrote:ok, got the cars to load, but still no skins.....just black. wtf is this so complicated for.....the cars have installers too, which means everything should go where it's supposed to Oo.

Try signing up to race2play.com and look for 'Files' in the sidebar...much simpler.
Re: I've been cheating on you
Well.. I'm curious as to whether the rFactor server I think is running is actually running..
It appears that you can select maybe one thing for it to host. I haven't downloaded any other content (cars or tracks), there's just the stuff that came with the 1 gig rF setup download.
Anyways, I called the server "L'il RLers Server"
Anybody want to see if it shows up?
Can the content/location be set, or would I have to physically be here in front of this computer to do so?
