Re: I've been cheating on you
Damn - I read this only now - 3 days later - and I'm rather sad knowing another great simmer is slowly going away from RL.DANDY wrote:
As I posted once, I installed Winbloz as a dedicated console for the excellent game rfactor. After playing about a month, I can safely say it's taken RL's place as my #1 sim. No worries, though, my RL folder isn't going anywhere. I'll still be playing, just somewhat less.
I sincerely hope you'll often come back to us though
Aaahh - genius belongs to apple !! Joking of course - no genius here - only guys unafraid to try "impossible" things for a wonderful community.DANDY wrote:
We've been spoiled by the genius of LOL and the RLPAU, as these things aren't nearly as well put together over there.
When I'll get my new mac (soooon) I'll give it a try on a wi***ows partition. I've lurked on rFactor for a time but there was nothing like RL's friends down there. Now, who knows ?DANDY wrote:
Likewise if you already play, I'd love to run with RLers. My wish is to have the RL community join me over there to form a league, but I know that will never happen, and the reasons are many. For a lifelong car guy and sim addict like myself, it's worth some inconvenience.
Thanks to you Dandy for your work and the fun.DANDY wrote:
I'd like to express my gratitude to all who have assisted and debated along the way. I enjoyed making this stuff, and learned a great deal, even if my results were far from professional.
Oh - what's your name in rFactor ? Dandy too ?

It covers the spectrum, from 30-player Corner 1 smashups with insults to fun sessions with TS chatter to serious leagues with full race rules and no on-or-off-track slagging or in-race chatting allowed.... even 'sorry' is banned.theSnail .@y wrote:After I've lurked on rFactor for a time but there was nothing like RL's friends down there.
Yes. I've never been particularly fond of it, just popped into my mind setting up RL, but who am I to go against the wind?theSnail .@y wrote:what's your name in rFactor ? Dandy too ?

hehe, i was thinking of Paul Simon's "I know what I know," but I see now it's actually 'blow against the wind."
Using some simple steps, I've gotten rfac to initialize in Crossover, show the publisher splash, but the menu is a black screen that makes the right sounds when I roll over the hidden buttons. It's farther than I've read anyone has gotten, so I'll keep goofing with it.
Re: I've been cheating on you
Success!!! Almost...
Launches with Crossover, gets into the game. Doesn't see my wheel, but keyboard controls work. Lots of semi or fully-transparent textures and artifacts, and the game's graphics configuration utility sees directx 9 installed, but doesn't offer it as a shader level. All done with simple steps, but more tweaking required.
Noticed Crossover has a 30-day trial, Crossover Games has a 7-day... a WTF is in order.

Re: I've been cheating on you
Makes sense to me. If you want CrossOver so you can use MS Office for Windows, you'll want 30 days to really test drive it properly but you'll need it for a lot longer than that. If you want CrossOver to play the latest and greatest PC game, you might just complete the game in a month and then have no further use for CrossOver.DANDY wrote:Noticed Crossover has a 30-day trial, Crossover Games has a 7-day... a WTF is in order.

They obviously don't understand that starving Mac gamers will hold on to any game foreverandever.djpimley wrote: If you want CrossOver to play the latest and greatest PC game, you might just complete the game in a month and then have no further use for CrossOver.
Final progress update
Morally obliged to stop working on this, truly sorry about that.
USB controller support seems a long way off, anyway.
The plus is that I got into some Intel-flavoured Darwin and found the Crossover package to be excellent as well.

D, Did you see this page on the Codeweavers site? Looks like they are pretty generous with their licenses if you are trying to get something to work or have a number of potential users interested in getting something to work.

Re: I've been cheating on you
No, I hadn't, though that's pretty cool. That's not my problem, however, for which I see no solution. Sorry to be vague, but it's necessary.Toad wrote:D, Did you see this page on the Codeweavers site?
What is Winbloz, anyway????
What's the deal on Winbloz, anyway? I'm trying to get an effective PC emulator to run Auran Trainz, MS Flight Sim, and tons of other stuff, and Parallels just doesn't cut it since it can't read encrypted CD's (necessary for running many games during play since this is a common anti-piracy feature). I've surfed all over and I can't find much info, surprisingly.

Re: I've been cheating on you
Emulation is garbage for games or anything else that requires power. It's pretty much running 2 OSs at the same time. Darwine (free) or Crossover (free trial) are not emulators, and could work, but likely take a little or a lot of fiddling.Battlewagon wrote:What's the deal on Winbloz, anyway? After giving it some thought, my reasons may be unfounded. It looks like I'll be accepted as an 'application advocate,' so time will tell if we see rFac4Mac. NukeFTW? I hope so....
EDIT: I'm in... will update on progress
Re: I've been cheating on you
Making serious progress in this short time.... still having some redraw issues and background textures appear in the wrong places, but I'm confident this thing will be up and running soon, even with my primitive skills.DANDY wrote:EDIT: I'm in... will update on progress

You mean kill myself now? Soooorrry, I didn't know this was such a touchy subject, but I find that just a little over the top. Didn't know CA was such a breeding ground for extremism. Sheesh!
Re: I've been cheating on you
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Re: I've been cheating on you
Sounds like they aren't so primitive to me!DANDY wrote:my primitive skills.
Managed to get this installed on a memory stick and had a try of the (far too short) demo. Looks good fun, lots of features that were asked for in Redline and ran surprisingly well on the Mini. The only issue seemed to be an occasional half second freeze and continue. I ran out of time before I figured out what was going on though.
Re: I've been cheating on you
No, really. This is just app installs, box-ticking, moving folders, and the odd removal of a string in the equivalent of a registry file, even easier than adding fps display in RL prefs. I've never written a line of code, Giles and yourself are the real talents. I do hope I'm not seen to be undermining any ongoing development efforts, that's certainly not my intention. I always have, and continue to enjoy RL for all the reasons people have mentioned here and elsewhere. [/trollmodeoff]slowDan wrote:Sounds like they aren't so primitive to me!
