Brands update
I decided to take Giles up on his offer to update his plugs. Brands was made long before we had the tools & knowledge we have now on track making, and I thought it deserved to have some things improved, without changing the cosmetics or overall "feel" of the track. So here's what I've done:
1) Changed the name of the mapinfo/road/roadtypes files so it will cause a dfm with the original Brands (or Alphonse's just-modified release - sorry for the work you put in Alphonse, I hope you don't mind ). This was causing RL to crash for those with the old version if a host ran the new one.
2) Redid the overview map.
3) Removed the worst of the bumps. The track is by no means glassy smooth now, that would take a lot more work and would mean adjusting the scenery models to fit. Just the very worst bumps are now history.
4) Unstickified the pit wall. I just added 2 extra vertices to the 3 roadtypes that make up the pitlane, so you now scrape along as you would expect instead of being stopped dead by any contact.
Before I release it to the world, please give it a spin, and report back here...
Here's the link to Brands 1.1*

Hey Pax - thank you for doing it - no worries form my side.
I just missed Brands so much i put my effort in it for selfish reasons
It works here - and looks about the same for me as before.
Have a good weekend,

I had already thanked Alphonse but now thanks goes to both of you. Glad you got this one back in rotation, I dearly missed it.

Re: Brands update
Well, if nobody has any issues (ethical or otherwise...) with this version, I'll go ahead and make it available on the main RL forum later tonight , as version 1.1.2...

Re: Brands update
I personally would like the last chicaine to be as fast as she should be in real life (around 160-180 kmh I guess)
And, of course, new start/finish bow and paddock hill bend *
* since that's what I'd generally like to see on a track named Brands Hatch and not very easy to do in short time, yeah

Re: Brands update
The end of the wall is sticky if you hit the end, in which case, you were in for a major collision anyway.
Changing that behavior would also be a lot more work, and someone else can do that if they want.
If you hit the pit lane wall anywhere there would be a guardrail IRL, you now scrape along as you do along any other guardrail on any track in RL.
The changes you suggest Val are reasonable, but that kind of alteration would require remaking the scenery model. As well as that being more work than I wanted to do (I have another British track in the works), my goal was to leave the track very much as Giles made it, rather than try to do a more significant sweep that would change elevations or turn angles etc.

Re: Brands update
Agreed. If I was making Brands now, I'd do it very differently.
But it is what it is. I'm probably not going back to working on it in the foreseeable future. Other fish to fry...

Re: Brands update
I supposing you worked on the track to make it much more smooth. Well, its just the same, here. All the bumps on track on track are the same. It's not a problem for me, cause, as you wrote, this is a piece oh Redline history, and I would this track remain the same.Pax-raider wrote:3) Removed the worst of the bumps. I also experienced fps issue compared to the old version.

Although this might be considered a minor case of Grave-Digging.... I just couldn't resist:
