Er, what happened to our posts?!?

CG, did you break the forum again? scratch confused

Here it is again, through the magic of the 'back' button with the amazing synergistic team of copy and paste:

Dandy sent me a high-poly Mustang GT500 model and suggested I par it down and use it to make the Mustang GT3 car.

Being a crazy 3DS model in six million pieces (and 18k triangles, for the exterior), I made my own (using the high-test model as a template).

I'll use this to make two cars - the stock Mustang Shelby GT500, and the Mustang FR500GT3.

Here's the basic model that will then veer off for the other three cars. It's a GT500 without any hood vents nor the rear wing/spoiler as they differ between the cars:

FartMallow 3000 - with ponies! Gt500_wingless

...then I saw the Roush Stage 3 Mustang on Top Gear/JC DVD, so we'll have that too:

FartMallow 3000 - with ponies! Roush_a
FartMallow 3000 - with ponies! Roush_b
FartMallow 3000 - with ponies! Roush_c

That's 2600 polys - higher than the C6 vettes, I'll see if I can lose some around the rear bumper.

Mustangs! Woo!

Looking forward to it. 2600 polys is not bad at all, so don't go wild if it will spoil the looks.

Looking good! On a tip from sD, I'm finding MI does a decent job at poly reduction, depending what scale one chooses. The larger the scale, the more details are kept, and vice versa. Simple yet effective.

Still a few rides left to go...DBR9 GA? bounce

Mustang GT500 - I'm still debating this, as it's a pretty crap car.
Mustang GT Roush Stage 3
Mustang FR500GT3 - The GT3 car.

These are all current generation Mustangs.

EDIT: See this post.

So, here's the crap GT500 - The .car file is nothing special, just dimensions and powerbands. I'm wondering if the polys/shadows/transparency nukes anyone's Mac.

Mustang GT500 (2008) (it's the last "M" car before the "N"s on my list.)

Will post a request for handling feedback tomorrow (well, feel free to provide it for this, but I just took the Z06 .car file and changed all the specifications I had numbers for (ie, nothing suspension related).

If you want to see the Roush and GT3 bodies, feel free to deplug and change/dupe the .car file; the models and UV maps are there.

looking good and surprisingly a fun ride ... the braking is a bit sloppy, but im sure that will work out once the suspension is set in place.

Looking good! GT3 version should be fun.

btw, I sent Max a 'corrected' Gallardo with proper specs and a resized model and a little tuning....no response yet, will see if he bites.
The current 'tuned' Exige turns competitive lap times round Silverstone, it could simply be considered eligible.

Ok, here's a zipped folder - unzip it and plop it in your Plug-ins folder (throw away the one from yesterday). This is all three cars.

The GT500 is supposed to roll like a fishing boat.

Feedback encouraged! Feel free to hack any of the .car files and post your suggestions (including whole .car files).

I've only taken the FR500 halfway around Spa (total) - it's time for bed.

I haven't checked the other GT3 cars, but the 5th and 6th gear of the Mustang are not usable.
Are you limited to specific gear for final drive ratios?
It feels like the aerodynamic resistance becomes to high at 290 kph.

Edit: oops, you meant the FR500 - yeah, I've absolutely no idea what the final-drive/gear ratios should be on it.

- Original post: -
The real car (GT500) is limited to 155mph, so it's hard to know what the real top speed is (I did search). The gears, final drive, torque and power are to spec though.

Despite the looks and the power, it's not a good car.

GT3 car feels right, setting competitive laps after a few rounds.

Here's a .car with gears from Aussie V8 Supercars, which seem to use the same transmission and have approximately the same power-to-weight ratio. I set the rear drive to the shortest, and haven't tested, but other options are there to play with. These should be able to provide better gearbox performance with a bit of tweaking.
