Re: Austin GP - new track
Dang, I was looking for someone to make me a toilet building next.djpimley wrote:Well, it's a pit box, mate. It's not very sexy, is it?
Seriously though, a certain entire pit building is rather erotic, though...
Thanks, I could probably have used a few more polys, but it seemed like enough for something people will speed past most of the time. After I release the track maybe a few others will jump on the bandwagon.djpimley wrote:Wait a while though, it's close to Christmas and many people are busy but I'm sure somebody will have a bored moment in the coming weeks. Nice model, btw. Low poly but very effective.

Damn, can you wait a bit more ? I'm sorry I did not see the pit box thing earlier …
I made a Renault skinwhich needs monitoring screens now
Well, Renault will soon be Lotus Renault but there's plenty of Renault pictures online …

Thanks, it looks maaahvelous. First release expected next weekend (ie Dec 18/19), so if you want to be immortalized in the first version, get your skin to me by Saturday morning. If you are planning one, please make it car racing (ie: doesn't have to be F1) or somewhat RL-related. Colour scheme is completely yours to mess with though.
Looking forward to seeing some more contributions!

Re: Austin GP - new track
My intent had been to release an unmodeled first version, but I decided to just go all out and model the scenery now. Here's an image of current progress, but obviously not ready for a release this weekend. However, I promise to put something out by xmas weekend. Still lots of room for your pit boxes...

Re: Austin GP - new track
Just wanted y'all to know I just spent literally two hours trying to figure out why Blender would NOT export my track model without a borked material (showing up as a deep blue coloured areas in the model on first import into MI, rather than the snow white model you expect). It took that long to figure out that two vertices inside one piece of guardrail had been joined by mistake. That's one edge in a model of 20,000+ polys causing the entire problem.
Anyway, the scenery is fully modeled now. It needs some trackside ads, a few trees, maybe a pit building if I can raise the energy, and lots of some kind of post to indicate where you can't cut through corners (a la Donington), oh and a sky box (but will probably borrow one from another track for now). Despite the long-sounding list, I still think its on course for a first release very soon.

Ah, the joys of Blender. It's been so long.

Re: Austin GP - new track
I struggled with the same problem when making models for San Francisco. If the model is triangulated, you can try this before exporting to OBJ: Face mode, select all triangles, switch to vertex mode, invert selection, delete vertices. There might be an easier way (there usually is), but that's what works for me.

Re: Austin GP - new track
If it happens again, that's what I'd do. I tried early in the two hours to see if there were any faces with unassigned materials, and used the invert selection to reveal any that might be hidden, but there weren't any. I never considered there might be an edge not part of a face... I don't remember ever seeing this before.

Re: Austin GP - new track
OK, I didn't quite make it for xmas weekend, but I'll be hosting a release party tomorrow at 5pm Eastern, which I believe is 10pm UK, 11pm mainland Europe. Everybody should be able to figure out their time relative to one of those. This will be by far the most complete first release of any track I've done, should just be very minor tweaking needed, or adding a couple more pit boxes if anyone else gets inspired to make a skin.

Thanks, and thank you for the pit box! Lots of room to express your creativity chaps! UV is available as a .jpg and a layered .psd as well as an .obj file of the model, see page 2 of this thread...djpimley wrote:That was a blast, thanks so much for a great new track.
