Given that I created one of the made-up GT3's, I know this might sound daft.
I can't decide if I am for or against a XJ200 GT3. While I would be willing to help with the development, I somehow feel that it should remain in a GT1 class.

Perhaps you are right. It's just a shame it is so lonely. Sad

Hopefully with it's new slinky looks and new moniker (dropping the "Le Mans" in favour of "XJ220C GT1") it will get noticed again and could become the reference car for the GT1 class. Just don't ask me to rationalise the specs. Wink

Cheer up, there's both the C6.R and the Ultima GTR to keep it company. And I may even have a dusty 3D model of the Mosler MT900R lying around somewhere...

Here's a snippet I culled from an rFactor discussion about GT1 that seems to me to have some relevance to this Redline class construction thread.

"First, no team ever actually publishes the "real" numbers. The best you'll ever get is a dumbed-down rounded number intended for the masses. Next, there's reality and then there are simulations. Creating an ultra-realistic mod in exacting detail would be fine for a single chassis mod and it's repetitively easy too, however the full version of this mod has 21 cars that all race together at the same time. If we were to be dogmatic with the ultra realistic thought it would inevitably lead to one or two cars dominating over the others in class. And the rest of the cars sitting in the showroom making pretty pictures and little else. This is not, nor has it ever been the goal for this mod. The goal is encourage and promote good, solid, inter-class and intra-class, racing. And to achieve a good balance of multi-class competition you occasionally need to fudge the numbers a bit in order to make the competition a better and ultimately more fun."

And I believe this is what Tomte wmeant when he said... "some people care more about realism and other more about gameplay"
there is a balance somewhere in there.

Given the fact that especially the latest additions aren't exactly balanced to the general pace of the existing GT3 class and with several details of the car files out of date, I think it would be senseful to get this train going again.
Right now I have some time to work on balancing and improving - the entire class must be updated - so I have gathered some reference info.

On perfect laps, GT3 cars get approximate laptimes of:

7:10 - Nürburgring Nordschleife
2:15 - Mount Panorama Bathurst
2:05 - Silverstone Arena

I'll just go ahead and throw my first result of the rebalancing in the ring:
The Gallardo GT3-R got a couple of fixes realism-wise and a reworked suspension setup, one that might actually deserve to be called 'race suspension'.
Note: Do not drive this car hard on the Nordschleife when you have problems with your spine and generally avoid treating this car like a road car when you use curbs. Grass is not what this car was made for driving on, curbs are usable but have to be used with caution!
If noone disagrees, this will be the benchmark for the other cars of this class - so please let me know what you think.

Note: Name changed to start with 'GT3'

Keeping in mind the euphoria about the lovely new track, I would still have expected a little more input on this class rebalancing proposal & my test car file.. scratch

Sorry, my fault. santa

Not sure what kind of benchmark this is setting, or do you mean in all respects ie: speed, handling, braking etc?

Sorry, and Yes. In all respects, and also very importantly suspension behavior.
I shortened them heavily and changed some strength/friction settings to make the cars feel more like real race cars.

...so, what do you people think? I have several other car files in the pipe, but I don't see a reason for putting up any of them when the performance and driving feel of this one don't satisfy anyone...

Patience my dear. It's the festive period, some people have actually other things to do than spend time testing car configurations.

On a short note: while it very nice to have a Nürburgring laptime as reference, I think it is useless for Redline car setup tests. If you can drive 10 laps consistently within the same 10th of a second in a row, then you might actually get some usable results. If not, actual driving ability has more impact than the car's setup.

Btw, if anybody wants to rebalance the 968 or drop it from competiton for good, go ahead. I don't have time for it.

And happy new year! Smile

Um, err, ok. Laughing

Just to let you all know - I will be releasing a first test pack shortly here on this forum. However, there is one minor question: New Topic or this one?
