Re: How NOT to do it ...
I sincerely hope not. A gadget is no substitute for driving with due care and attention. Every assistive technology that is put in our cars is just another thing to help us forget that we are in control of a deadly weapon and must act responsibly.alphonse wrote:hope they fix it and it becomes a successful addon on any car...

well - i still hope there is some success as there are dying too many people on the roads, or get injured, day by day all over the world. every technique that might help to lower that rate imho is a good addon.
but you are right - its by no means a replacement for a good driver.

Re: How NOT to do it ...
There I go, driving my car with collision avoidance, and it stops me just in time to not run into a truck.. And the idiot texting behind me slams into me because he's got an old car without the technology. *sigh*

Could it start a new trend of bull bars on the back of cars?

Agree, but in part.djpimley wrote:Every assistive technology that is put in our cars is just another thing to help us forget that we are in control of a deadly weapon and must act responsibly.
They are called active technologies; it mean, they work actively while the driver drive the car. The test, although it is not a good video for Volvo, has inside the car a bot. No humans.
Those technologies are useful for help the driver in hard conditions (fog, naked girls around the road, housewifes, etc). As Alphonse state, I hope these kind of technologies will be in every car, but they will not replace the driver, but will help the rookies or noobs or with less driving experience to avoid deadly crash.
Far time ago, I read BMW declaring: the ASR is an amazing technology, but beware, it cant broke the physics laws...
