I hope we can get those GT4s ready for at least one more tournament before we all say adios.Tuktuk wrote:While creating Mugello... I feared I was making the track for myself

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I'd also chip in some moolah, no question.
FWIW, guys, I've been on occasionally (3-4x/wk or so), but usually peace out almost immediately if no simmers are on there. When working 60+ hour weeks in grad school, I only go on if I think it's worth it. Problem is, if everybody does the same thing, we all miss each other.
In any case, hang on until summer... things tend to pick up again around that time, and while we all have real lives to attend to, Redline only really dies if we grow impatient for the next temporary resuscitation
(PS-Kenners, I'd play the 'ring a zillion times over, don't worry!)

That's what I do also ...C.P. Frost wrote:but usually peace out almost immediately if no simmers are on there.
The other thing is ... When I am in (simming) I am in and can't almost stop, if I am out a few days I am out making other things (e.g. currently I am reading books again as before). When I spent a few weeks without sim racing I just don't miss it.
Sim is a lot of fun but not essential ...
So Alf is probably right - a kind of tournament is needed also. Long race, regular tournament, TTT or something else collecting the racers from all over the world. This requires a lot of time for organizing and it's probably more difficult than donating money for the important server.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Ouuuch! I did not enjoy reading that, Leo. Regarding a rescue of LoL and the forum - I could contribute with some money, but I don't have terribly much left right now - 5€ would still be more than 0€ though I suppose.
...who allowed you to read my mind? Wait, oh damn, that was too easy.
Right now I am unable to play Redline for technical reasons. The preparations for my oral graduation exam in history and a normal exam in the same subject - all that's left - are not the main deal. It's simply that the main board of my MacBook is fried and that I still haven't gotten to sending it in for repairs (warranty).

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
easy guys...I swear...
Btw...I agree with most of what was said here, exception made for Val's words doh
One of the reason why I set up this thread was to avoid the frustration of hooking for simmers in lobby...while pleasantly talking with Lum though...
Next tournament...I don't think we will wait until gt3s are finished...get the quickest and you'll be called a cheater...Val cannot race...another good reason...

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I have to admit that I never used Leo's paypal... *blush*
As for a tournament, some months ago I proposed to organize an "italian" one. My proposal is still valid but I don't have time and knowledge to organize one alone, so who want to help?

Its just a thought, but what about adds? Is there a way you could set up say google adds and thereby at least in part pay the bills? As much as I hate adds, Id rather have the forum with them than not have the forum at all.

This forum is on a free hosting (see alph post just before your), so no bill to pay
The bill is for legacyoflies.com, we are waiting for leo to tell us how much it cost per year.

When I said forum, I mean all of lol. I was thinking a little google adds bar at the bottom of the home page or some such, but it probably wouldn't pay near enough to do anything.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
quite the stir in this thread. thanks to everyone that has shown interest in legacy's survival and especially the donations so far. the total cost to run legacy for the next 12 months is a a little over $80 for the server. with teamspeak its around $100, yet i don't think TS is as needed as before yet perhaps i am wrong. and yes as alphonse has pointed out the forums are free and don't require any funding except for admin type requirements yet there aren't too many being that this forum seems to run itself with the right mix of people.
seems so far the easiest solution is finding the rest of the funds and a simple addition of an admin that will have access to the full legacy FTP and will keep track of new plug-ins updating. for changing links, names or server placement is a lot of work and really may not be needed.
kopje has offered to help and seems alphonse will stick around for another year if he receives that help ... is everyone okay with that and have i missed anything?
note: do we need TS anymore or perhaps someone has a TS server that could give up 20 slots ... thoughts?
note note: bandwidth is unlimited yet usually pulled about 8-9 GB a month (not lately though) ... server size just under 10 GB

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Ok as Leo state, i suppose the TS server is not needed anymore. The bandwidth usage is very low, I fear was way higher. I can offer to host all the files in the next years or when you want on my mobileme account, where we actually have 400GB monthly bandwidth.leoantix wrote:note: do we need TS anymore or perhaps someone has a TS server that could give up 20 slots ... thoughts?

For the forums, good news. We can continue to post and share our personal things here for long time still =)
Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I have donated $50 to the cause. TS I think is not required any more - in fact I never used it.
Leo, I just want to write: thank you for creating LoL and this forum, for quietly being such an important part of this little community. I hope you'll drop by now and then, to see what we're up to and let us know how you are doing.

Ok, I have donated $50 too.
As for TS I think it's not needed anymore.
And yes, as DJ wrote, thank you very much for all your work! Come back sometimes, don't let us alone

Seems like both the financial and maintenance issues are solved already??

Most plugins can be uploaded to the ASW download page if you are worried about losing them. It may not be as organized as legacy, but it will work as a container until a new permanent solution is found.

There's a submit file link on the left.

We are worrying about loosing LOL and that wing of the community, the perfection of the organisation there, the "being there" of it...
At least for me, it's a pretty romantic story with this game. I love it and you and loosing bits and parts of that hurts, but life goes on...
Have fun!

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
we have still one year, from what i understood. what is going down is the TS server. But I don't see people using it ultimately.
Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I'd just like to say that I wish every forum was this helpful. The people here are great, and I'm glad the danger is over.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Just ran across this on the Ambrosia site.
Haven't done much redlining for awhile, but by way of saying "Thank You", adding $33.33 to help with more LOLz. Or a few good beers.
Thanks to everyone in the Redline community, and especially Leo for making it what it was. A great time.

CORRECT!!!
i must again thank everyone for all the support and of course donations towards the legacy cause. i am happy to announce we are set for the next TWO years without worry or disruption. in the next few days i will be adjusting the website, removing the TS links and getting in touch with kopje to fill him in on the dirty and messy side of legacy (i hope he is ready).
as to me ... i will be checking in on and off into the forums and of course trying to get my butt on the tarmac if at all possible ... may Redline live on and NEVER die!

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Ahahah Kopje!!! Now you'll be in trouble!
I really love what happened here, how our little community responded to this emergency!
Well played, we are still alive and happy to be Redliners!
And I like how the mood of this topic has changed for better and lighter!
Hopefully we'll see some kind of interest also inside the Redline Lobby, where the tarmac lies...
There are still some fantastic developers, Kenners' work is worth all the 2011! And god knows what the rest of the year will bring.
Thanks guys to be like you are.
Any xbox or playstation will give me this.
