Re: dun duddle uh dun, dun dun dun duddle a dun
I just had another gotcha regarding the body inertias: IX and IYneed to be independent of model placement, which means the mass x distance component of the inertia needs to reflect the CoG-Z position, which should be set according to the weight distribution between the axles (only for inertia calculations).
As for you car, the axles are offset by 0.189m to the front (50% weight distribution), the Z-CoG is 0.189m as well. So this would cancel out itself.
Still, it doesn't make an awful lot of difference, just some 70 odd kg-m2. Given that I just lopped of some 500 of those just to make the car feel better, it seems negligible.

Re: dun duddle uh dun, dun dun dun duddle a dun
We're also calculating inertia values as if the car were a six-sided box when it isn't, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I assume I'll like the handling, so then it's just a matter of seeing if this is too fast or slow. I took the engine specs for the DBRS9, and bumped up the power for this to accommodate the heavier mass (based on the same weight-to-power ratio), but perhaps it was too much. I also set the Redline at 8000 RPM, which is where Forza 2 seems to think a hot-rodded Aston Martin engine should end up (many kudos to whoever can find out the actual rev limit on the V12 used by the DBRS9 - that's the GT3 DB9, not the GT1 car, which is a DBR9. )

In the beginning I thought it goes like stink and handles like lard. Well, now it still goes like stink but handles like, ermn, lard light?NoNameBrand wrote:

One thing the Corvette does better than all cars in the class for me, is how it arrests a sideways skid by turning the wheels straight on exiting a turn while running out of track width (think of Thruxton). The Vanquish does not find grip well like this, and perhaps it should not because if it were to hook up easily it would accelerate past everything with ease. It feels more like the Gallardo in this respect.
Whatever changes you made to the Vanquish settings now have moved it more towards the Corvette behavior I noted above. It grips earlier while arresting the skid, which gets you on the gas earlier, and accelerates faster with less drama than the Corvette. Is that what you want? On a fast track like Thruxton it gives a big adantage, not so much on Imola as turning in while on the brakes is not a good as the Corvette.
The Corvette itself is as fast or faster than the rest of the class, based on my MP butt gauges.

Tomte, love the handling. I think the rear brakes are a bit strong, though if you're careful to not trail brake, people should be fine with it.
I reduced the RPM limit to 7000 - should see if this slows it down.
Also, here's a template for GIMPers: http://lonelyfridge.com/project_files/redline/vanquish/vanquish_gimp.psd.zip
Don't send me a .pct, but rather send me a collection of layers for your livery, and I'll import it into my .psd file, taking care of the common bits (lights, grills, chrome), shading, alpha channels, etc. The "Paint Mask" covers all the stuff you don't have to worry about (also, don't worry about the lower right corner).

Here's an updated zip of the project so far:

Here's the final (I think) photoshop template for persons wishing to contribute liveries.

(Val's sticky skin is part of these zip files... )

Any more skins? or performance feedback? tomorrow is release day.
Re: dun duddle uh dun, dun dun dun duddle a dun
the model is gorgeous, the sound is awesome, the brakes are almost mazda like ... "why she NO turnie"?
Re: dun duddle uh dun, dun dun dun duddle a dun
No time until Friday, I'm afraid. If you're delayed for any reason then I might whisk something together on Friday.NoNameBrand wrote:Any more skins? or performance feedback? tomorrow is release day.

Just made some top speed tests (approximate speedo readings) and 1 mile runs (total time)NoNameBrand wrote:Any more skins? or performance feedback? tomorrow is release day.
997: 295 kph - 26.7s
968: 290 kph - 27.9s
Gallardo: 300 kph - 26.9s
Mustang: 300 koh - 26.4s
Z06.R: 310 kph - 26.2s
Vanquish: 320 kph - 25.8s
I wouldn't expect the Aston Martin to be as slow as the 968, but maybe a little raise in FAR is in order.
I think Val suggested to shift the downforce balance a bit to the front to get a better turn in. I haven't tried that and generally thought to leave the 'compare to the competition' bit to the others

Yeah, but I haven't tried it on the Vanquish, was just a guess.
I had moved the downforce balance of the Gallardo by 0.01 to the front for version 1.1 and it seemed to help.

I'm willing to wait for you and to sort out the handling in the meantime. I've been tentatively invited to a jam session tonight anyway.
Shifting the aero balance to the front will improve turn-in at speed. I played with the suspension last night, giving more travel at the front than the rear, and it's OK, but the toe-in is still (too) sluggish, now follewed by very easy oversteer. Solving that initial toe-in problem is my main concern.
I know the Z06.R is supposed to have low-speed understeer, but haven't read anything on the DBRS9's handling (I intend the Vanquish to be a porkier version of that). If the aero changes make it acceptable at speed, then I'll accept the low-speed handling, and use these settings as the basis for a revised Z06.R.

I'm putting a skin together now but I need a wireframe to do some delicate door and grill surrounds. I don't feel like spending the next 4 hours guessing the whereabouts of the UV map edges! NNB, could you post a simple UV map layout?

What do you mean by surrounds?
The wire frame is the first layer in both .psd files (you'll want the full meal deal). It's labelled, for a change.

So it is! I guess it got that when I merged the layers. I meant that the actual graphic had the wire bits labelled.
