Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
I have a bit more time than that, if you want I can knock one up for you pretty quickly.
Just tell me what text you definitely want on there (ie: K, C14 and Com8 acknowledged? Anybody else?). I'm assuming you'll want the standard feathered action shot and overview map (maybe with corner names??). If you have an image that really says "Laguna" to you, then tell me and I'll use that, otherwise I'll just look online for a shot of some action there.
Lemme know.
EDIT: 5 minute search produced a bunch of decent images, how about this one:

Yeah - but it's a track and not a car. The corkscrew picture would be great - so significant. Imho.

Hmm - I don't know where the picture with the formula cars should be at Laguna. it looks like Mount Panorama ... Did they change the track layout?
I would prefer No.1 or the last one. I look forward to your release of that great trackbuilding.

Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
When I hear about Laguna Seca, the first thing that springs to my mind is the Corkscrew and Alex Zanardi in 1996. This is where, in the last lap of the last race of the season, in a bold move, he took away enough points from Brian Herta to let his team-mate Jimmy Vasser become the CART champion of 1996.
Here's a longer clip from that last lap:

Unfortunately, the only clear picture of that very moment I could find is this:

Here's a quick first attempt. Nothing special but should be OK...

Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
Heh, that's a gutsy pass. In F1 that would have been penalized (ie: Lewis Hamilton just last year).Brook wrote:When I hear about Laguna Seca, the first thing that springs to my mind is the Corkscrew and Alex Zanardi in 1996. Yeah, WTF, that's a flagrant track cut! I like #1 or the formula pic, the corkscrew is the Laguna signature.Brook wrote:Zanardi 96

It's out of the corkscrew.
Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
imho ... i would move the track layout further left over the pic. secondly, the text seems out of place, perhaps change the font and color and move the text up a bit having the pic as its background ... just some ideasPax-raider wrote:Here's a quick first attempt. Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
Yes I imagined that. But I am surprised the following left turn on the picture is so short after the right turn before, even if it is filmed with tele objectives.NoNameBrand wrote:

Ohhhh, yeah, babeh!
See the first post for the link to the final alpha. I do believe performance will be satisfactory, even in MP - even for dj!
Leo - can you post a link here, in this forum, for LoL, but keep it off the main LoL track page? My bandwidth is ridiculous..
I'm liking it! Thanks, C, for the opportunity to tackle this.
Now: I need some feedback on where to strategically place ents to keep cheaters on the track, esp through corner 2. And, I need to pull the corner markers out of the trackside models and make them .ents.. Anything else?
Have fun!

Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
After a quick tour, what you said goes for me too. I am really liking this.
FPS is very good all around now.
Visually now all the scenery is much what you would see without an event going on. The atmosphere is very much like being there.
As for cheaters, am happy to report that none of the people I race with cheat. So it's good as is.

Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
It's really good now, just a couple of more suggestions:
- Starting position should be lowered by several meters.
- Try disabling lighting on the brake markers, to make them easier to read. Or perhaps not, I don't know.
- Brake markers before turn 2, maybe?
- Give the AI better lines and make them go faster. I can give this a try, as I have some time off this weekend. Also, the AI can get stuck in the first .ents right after the start. Possibly best solved with minTrack in the roadtypes.

Umm.. Start position? Lowered? As in, bring in earth moving equipment, dig up the track, remove a bunch of earth, and repave? This is really late in the process for such a change. I'd have to rework the .road file, redo at least some of the roadtypes (or maybe not), then re-do all the modeling I've already done in that area, as well as rework the existing modeling of the walls, terrain, foliage, and trackside elements. You'd have to convince me..
Brake markers.. Easy enough to disable lighting. I'll do it, see what folks think. But, I don't think I'll put any before turn 2. The branch off of the old track on the right side there is a good place to cue in on.
I have done nothing about the AI line. I did set min and max track values somewhat generically for large portions of the track, and specifically on a per segment/per roadtype basis for the rest. Let me have a look at this, get some things set, then you can have a look. Your original layout received compliments on the AI driving; I've never developed much skill there. At the least, I'll fix the min & max track values where those immovable cones are.
Cheers,
Kenners

Re: Laguna Seca Version 2
Nothing so tricky. I think C14 is referring to the fact that the cars enter the "Laguna-world" about 10m off the ground, compared to the usual few m. Just lower the Z of startPos in the mapinfo.
The distance marker one is an easy fix too, rather than turn lighting off (which makes things look artificial imho), you could just either tilt the markers back in the mapinfo, or remodel so that the number is on a face that sits about 20-30 degrees off vertical. That way it will pick up enough ambient light to be visible and the light will change in subtle ways according to clouds, angle to the sun etc.
